A Situational Judgement Test (SJT) is a type of psychological assessment used to evaluate how individuals handle various work-related scenarios. It measures problem-solving abilities, interpersonal skills, and decision-making aptitude by presenting candidates with hypothetical situations and asking them to choose the most appropriate response from several options. SJTs are commonly employed in recruitment and selection processes to predict job performance and identify candidates who align with organizational values and expectations.

For example, a company might use an SJT to assess how a candidate would respond to a situation where a team member is consistently missing deadlines. The candidate might be given several options, such as addressing the issue directly, reporting it to a supervisor, or offering assistance to the team member. The responses chosen provide insight into the candidate’s approach to problem-solving and teamwork.

SJTs are effective because they simulate real-life challenges and require candidates to demonstrate practical judgment. They are particularly useful in roles where interpersonal skills and situational awareness are critical.
