Expatriate

Expatriate

An “Expatriate” is an individual who temporarily or permanently resides in a country other than their country of citizenship, typically for work or personal reasons. Expatriates, often referred to as “expats,” might be sent abroad by their employer for a specific assignment, or they might move voluntarily to seek new opportunities or experiences. This status involves navigating different legal, cultural, and social systems from those of their home country.

For instance, a marketing manager from the United States who relocates to Japan to oversee a new branch of their company would be considered an expatriate. They would need to adapt to the local culture, understand Japanese business practices, and comply with visa and work permit regulations.
